CITATION MUSTANG

Regarded by many as the first Very Light Jet (VLJ), this aircraft can seat up to 4 passengers, with a commercial range of 2 to 3 hours, depending on payload.

Our first impression is that it is an attractive looking aircraft and fits well into the Cessna family. The interior setup is straight forward with a cosy club four arrangement. Facilities wise, the aircraft does have a modest galley at the front next to the entrance, which can serve snacks and basic cold catering options. It also has a very small lavatory near the front of the aircraft, but we would suggest that this really is only for the very essential time of need, if you understand our meaning.

 

For a VLJ the size of the cabin is fair, but one noticeable factor is its slower cruising speed compared with its big brothers within the Citation family. This is worth considering for longer trips, say, from the UK to the Balearic Islands, for example, where a bigger aircraft can shave 15 or so minutes off the flight time each way.

For short missions, being 1 to 2 hours, the Mustang is a very viable option, and meets its design brief well, but if you are looking for other comparative models we would also suggest the Embraer Phenom 100, Honda Jet or Eclipse 500. If you are after a little extra space without extending your budget, the King Air 200 Turboprop series might be worth a look. If however you are looking for something a little bigger and faster, the Citation M2 or Citation CJ series are other considerations.
